Now going into this I wasn't a huge fan of the show, I'd seen a few episodes and thought they were clever enough but that was about it.
However I did know this volume contained “Cybernetic Ghost Of Christmas Past From The Future” which featured an appearance by The Man
Himself, Glenn Danzig. So I had to give it a watch and it was fun watching him poke fun at his dark and sinister image (he actually did the vocals).
Unfortunately the rest of the episodes didn't give me as much joy.
For those who haven't seen it the show concerns the (mis)adventures of the crime fighting fast food trio Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad.
Except they don't really do much crime fighting, they just sort of hang out and get into trouble. They're not aquatic (though they do like their
neighbor's pool) and they're not teens but that's irrelevant, just like everything else in the show.
Indeed in many ways the show's style reminds me of “Friends” or “Seinfeld”. It's not really about anything, being more concerned with the
interplay and dialogue between the group rather than whatever random events are occurring. If you like that kind of humor then this may be the
show for you but it left me pretty cold. The situations are certainly bizarre enough ranging from Ukrainian mail order brides to robotic ghosts of
Xmas past and there's certainly a lot of creativity going on but it just wasn't doing it for me. However, since it's the longest running show on
Cartoon Network's “Adult Swim” I seem to be in the minority.
The animation itself is fairly low tech and limited, not exactly “South Park” level but it is far from what you would expect from a good anime.
Considering it's all done on a couple of pieces of Adobe software for about $60,000 a show though, it is pretty impressive.
For those who like the show, this gives you 13 episodes spread across two discs. Of special note is the episode “Baffler Meal” which was their first
appearance, originally intended as a segment on “Space Ghost: Coast to Coast”. It's interesting to see their original incarnation and compare it to
how they changed for the show.
I also can't fault Madman for the amount of extras packed in here. Music videos, commentary tracks on four episodes and some deleted scenes.
The commentary is pretty light hearted, if you find the show funny you will probably get a chuckle out of it.
All in all for fans of the show this a great deal. Those not as familiar may want to rent first though, to see if it's to their liking.
7.5 out of 10 for me but fans of the show will probably give it a 9 out of 10

Food products living in New Jersey go out of their minds crazy as hell. This is the story of Master Shake, Frylock and Meatwad: creatures who live together, unsupervised, somewhere near the Jersey shore. Carl, their next door neighbor, has an above-ground pool and an attitude.
