Two couples grab their paintball guns and head deep out in the middle of the woods one weekend for some good old skirmish fun. As they break
up into small groups Beth (Alison Whitney) and Jiggs (Benjamin Kanes) team up to find their loved ones Brook (Miya Sagara) and Chandler (Andrew
Kranz) - they think they are  hiding out in an old abandonded house. As the two enter the house, they are unaware that they have just crept into
a highly guarded US Army science experiment, where a scientist who has gone awol is desperately trying to find a cure for a flesh eating alien
bacterium. The army  has  surrounded  the abandoned house with military reinforcements, a group of highly skilled scientists whom are so
desperately wanting to use the bacterium as a biological weapon against their enemies. But sadly the experiment goes terribly wrong, as the
bacterium breaks loose within the house, feeding on any living, breathing life form it leaves its hosts in an oozing state. They soon realize the alien
organism is also able to multiple into dozens of other living micro-organisms in a matter of minutes. The scientists predict that if the alien bacterium
gets out of the house, it will be only a matter of 48 hours until it consumes the whole earth of every living thing. As the alien bacterium begins to
slowly grow, the US army and scientists quickly being figuring out a solution to either contain or destroy the contaminated area, without the world
knowing of their doing. As the couples are trapped inside, the Army doesn’t allow them to exit the house due to spreading the infection, they seek
help by any means possible to escape alive.

Bacterium is directed by B-Movie filmmaker Bret Piper who has over the years has created a good handful of independent films which some are
either bad (
Screaming Dead) or good (Shock-O-Rama) depending on your taste in films. But his latest creation so far would have to be his best
work I have ever seen by far. Yes,
Bacterium is kind of similar to the 1950’s film The Blob in some ways, but still his attempt to create a sci-fi
horror film with spectacular low budget visual and special effects is simply incredible.

As the dialogue is not so strong at certain times in the film, the cast do a remarkable job bringing their characters to life on screen. To take into
consideration that the adorable looking actress Alison Whitney is her first time on screen and in a major role in a full length featurette film, she
definitely lit up the screen with her performance, but most of all it’s good to see a new face we haven’t seen before on screen. Another actor I
didn’t mind watching was Benjamin Kanes, who done a tremendous job. Not to mention Seduction Cinema’s Diva, AJ Khan also has a cameo in the
film but sadly it’s only for a few minutes.

The gore factor isn’t really high. But as for the ooze level it isn’t extremely high, you get to see the blob eat away many and I mean many scientists
faces, arms and torsos. A little bit of blood here and there, also a few nice half eaten slimy oozing corpses too.

Bacterium is now available by Pop Cinema on a region 0 DVD, which basically means you can play this awesome low budget sci-fi film on any DVD
player in the world. The special features contain a Making of Bacterium, Commentary with Producer Michael Raso and Director Brett Piper, and of
course a line up of up coming trailers from Shock-O-Rama and already released DVDs.

Bacterium is a rather well shot low budget sci-fi film that will satisfy any 1950’s sci-fi fans who enjoy watching slimy blobs devour human flesh. I
personally enjoyed watching this film, and recommend you one day either rent or buy this film an at least check it out, so you know what everyone
else is talking about.

Screaming Dead and Shock-O-Rama director Brett Piper returns to terrify horror fans with this
gruesome tale of a biological weapons project gone terrifyingly awry. A group of mischievous friends
break into a building they presume to be abandoned, only to discover a biological weapons project that
has mutated into an unstoppable, flesh-eating contagion. When the bacteria goes airborne and begins
to spread at an alarming rate, a mad scientist predicts that the entire planet will be devoid of life within
forty-eight hours. Now, as the virulent super bug turns everyone in it's path into a quivering pile of
infectious sludge, a covert military team is assigned the task of containing the infection and destroying
the strain before it becomes an epidemic. ~
