This is one very crazy and strange film but also a very enjoyable movie from the legendary SHAW BROTHERS STUDIOS, the story comes from a book
that goes by the name of THE DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS by CHIN YUNG, the plot (or what i could make of it) seems to be a brother Tuan Yu,
who loves books and a sister who loves swords, they must face the yellow-robed warrior who lost his legs to something called yin yang fingers
(aka laser fingers) and now has metal chicken legs and his monster hench-man, a very weird looking guy with a hard skull fangs and hooks for
hands that shoot out. Along the way we also meet a very hot snake-charmer and a silk-masked beauty (who must kill or marry the first man to see
her face) who is armed with her dagger-shooting leg bone and let’s not forget the giant red python, a kung-fu Gorilla and a gang called the
POSION MOTHS. It seems as if the brother wants to learn kung-fu does not want to learn it the hard way so he seeks out the red python that
legend has will grant the drinker of it's blood super-human powers, every-one seems to have a connection to the father and mother of Tuan Yu
and Mu Wan-Ching but the plot is so crazy it was hard to follow.
This is such a one of a kind movie, it has all the usual SHAW BROTHERS traits, fantastic sets, beautiful costumes and great fight scenes and then
there are the special-fx and some of the worst that I have ever seen in a film, the yin yang finger FX is bizarre laser streak that makes legs drop
off, the red python is mind blowing in how fake it looks our hero rolls around with it in a river wrapping it around himself trying his best to look in
trouble, it reminds one of BELA LUGOSI Vs. the octopus form the end of ED WOOD's BRIDE OF THE MONSTER. the gorilla costume is so bad that a
gorilla gram would be ashamed to wear it, at one point you see the gorilla form the back and you can see the zipper undone! i could go on but part
of the pleasure of this film is seeing and thinking to yourself "did i just see that?" or "is that for real?".
CELESTISL PICTURES have put this gem onto DVD in a fantastic digitally remastered clean clear print with a great sound mix, but the one thing is
lacking in big time is extras all we get is a very lame and rushed looking trailer (looks if they put it together at the very last minute), more extras
would have very welcome as most SHAW BROTHERS DVD's are packed with extras (there seems to be a wealth of there promotional martial
around) I recommend checking out of the weird film, some will hate it others will love it.

A brother, Tuan Yu, who loves books and a sister, Mu Wan-Ching, who loves swords must face the yellow-robed warrior, the Red Python, a sinuous snake-charmer and a silk-masked beauty (who must kill or wed the first man to see her face) before they can bring peace to their battle-addled family. Danny Lee (John Woo's The Killer) stars as Tuan Yu, while the striking Tanny Tien Ni, plays Mu Wan-Ching, in this familial fight fest. Choreographed by Tang Chia and Huang Pei-Chi and directed by Pao Hsueh-li, trusted co-director for several of Chang Cheh's most memorable productions including The Water Margin, The Battle Wizard is kung-fu action and pure entertainment!
