Jennifer Tree (Elisha Cuthbert) a young attractive upcoming Hollywood actress/supermodel finds herself locked inside a basement, by a psychotic
serial killer who gets his kicks out of playing mind games with her, while secretly watching her have claustrophobic attacks in a room beside her.
Jennifer soon realizes that she isn’t alone and a young male named Gary Dexter (Daniel Gillies) is also being held captive in a separate room. The
two of them form a passionate relationship, in the mist of undergoing psychological punishments, life-threatening tortures and terrifying phobias
they have to face. Gary and Jennifer being to find a way out of their cells, and hope to beat the sadistic and twisted madman, of his own games
once and for all.
Now what are my actual thoughts on this film? honestly it’s a Saw rip off, but without the gore and blood. I have no idea why the friggin hell writer
Larry Cohen, who has written a fairly few awesome films in his days, such as The Ambulance, Maniac Cop and It's Alive to name a couple, turns
around and writes this pathetic Saw knock off. Now I got to praise the guy for writing such awesome films back in the day, but this film, basically
drove me insane. Ok here is the scoop on this whole fucking movie, girl gets captured, meets boy, trusts boy, scared, cries, escapes with boy,
captured again and then boy falls in love with girl, girl finds out the truth and kills everyone, the end. That is it in a nutshell guys, I ain't fucking
shitting you. As for the Saw knock off part, well if you drop all the gore and blood within one abduction, and a slight twist in the end which you'll
see coming, well there it is folks you have Captivity.
Apart from a shitty script, this film was shot rather well by director Roland Joffé. Actress/beauty Elisha Cuthbert who is easy on the eyes, did a
somewhat fantastic job at the start of the movie but unfortunately she did lack a little in the entertaining side of it towards the very end of the film.
Three quarters through the film you kinda feel like turning off the movie, or fast forwarding to the very end just to save yourself a few more
minutes of your life.
As for the gore factor, there isn't much at all happening in this film. Just a gunshot wound, a knife to the chest, a melted body, and that’s about all
I can really remember to tell you the truth. But the version I reviewed was the original cut, so if some day down the road After Dark Films release a
unrated version of Captivity, then I would be highly interested in seeing what was cut out of it. But sadly I don't think I have missed too much
anyways.
After Dark Films have released a few good films, so don't get me wrong, but personally this film sucked the big one. Sorry but once this film is
released on DVD I don't recommend you buy on DVD straight away, rent the DVD first before dipping deep into your pockets.
