A group of close friends decide to spend the weekend out in the middle of the woods in a remote cabin, as swilling back a few beers and telling
ghost stories would be a cool thing to do. That’s until one dark cold night, Billy (Tim Jesiolowski) is was found bleeding to death in the near by
creek. The local Sheriff’s department felt that the crime scene was an accident and closed the file. Several years have now passed, and since Billy's
death the group have lost contact with each other since the funeral, that’s until just recently when one by one the group begin to see Billy's ghost
appear right before their own eyes. They all soon reunite, and decide it would be good for them all for one last time pay respect to Billy, by going
back to the cabin for old time sakes. Once again Billy's ghost appears, he stares with his dead cold white glazed eyes upon them, with an angered
expression on his face before fading away. The group start to talk about Billy's death, and believe that he was murdered by someone, it’s not long
that tension begins to set in when someone sabotages the cars. Everyone becomes paranoid, not knowing who to trust, and one by one witness
Billy's ghost hovering over a dead friends body. While they survive the night, can they escape the woods alive or will they join their friend Billy for
eternity?.
In Summer of 2005 independent filmmaker Erik Soulliard from New York decided to write a script called The Creek. With the support of his family
and friends, Soulliard wanted to shoot his first full length featurette film back in his home town of Lebanon, which is located in the State of
Pennsylvania. Within the end of April of 2006, Soulliard began to shooting The Creek, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from dusk to dawn for
six continuous weeks, while the rest of the week his cast and crew maintained working their normal 9 to 5 jobs. With most of this film that is shot
outside in the dark, luckily his Director of Photography, Jason Conitino was able to score a 5K light, which then was able to light up a good size
area when shooting the film. But their luck was about to change for the worst, when two weeks after principal photography was wrapped up, non
stop rain flooded the near by creek where the cabin was located. Pissed off and still determined to finish his film, Soulliard had to go back and re-
shoot due to all the debris and water damage inside the cabin. Finally on the 3rd of June, the talented, storm battling and hardworking
independent filmmaker had finished shooting this film The Creek.
People don't really realize how much hard work goes behind in shooting a film. One bad thing with independent film is that the film needs to be
shot quickly so they don't go over budget. Erik Soulliard has definitely had his fair share of ups and down, while trying to shoot this film. Did the
time and patience pay off? You’re damn right it did. Again we have another independent film that gets the both thumbs up from us at DVD
resurrections.com.
All the cast in The Creek, did a solid job with their characters. I am truly amazed by how much fucking work Erik Soulliard done with this film. By
taking on the lead role in the film, shooting the movie, wrote the script, edited the film. HELL, is there anything this guy didn’t do? I wouldn't be
surprised that he even cut the crust off the sandwiches for the cast and crew between takes. Actress Kathryn Merry is to fucking die for, she has
the beauty on screen, unbelievable acting capabilities and put that spark in the film that lit it up a bit.
The gore factor isn't really high, but you do get to see a few cool death scenes which are; an impalement, disembowelment, head smashing with a
rock and many damaging blows to the body with hard solid objects. I do believe it could of done with a bit more blood splatter and gore scenes,
but still the film manages to keep horror fans satisfied.
Now what can I say about the score... Well two words, "FUCKING BRUTAL". Yes that’s right, I said it. The Creek has that slow death metal chunky
guitar sound that will get any metalhead’s blood pumping, the score sounds kinda like what you would expect at an Obituary concert. You can
thank Andrew C. Strause and Tim Jesiolowski (who also played Billy) for their creepy grunt death metal riffs, that really did this film justice. And just
a quick word to any filmmakers reading this review, if you’re going to do a horror film, for fuck sake drop all the pings and beeps and grab a guitar,
jack it into a distortion pedal then hook it up to a Marshall stack, turn up fucker up and jam man. Listening to a score that is heavy as all fuck
makes a independent film so much more enjoyable to watch and listen to.
Once The Creek gets distribution, i have been told that the DVD will contain Behind the scenes footage, Audio commentary with director Erik
Soulliard and Jason Contino, Interviews with cast members and trailers..
We at DVD Resurrections highly recommend you check out Erik Soulliard's The Creek, this is one film everyone needs to check out once it is
available on DVD.
