It is the year 2010 and the French government has had enough of all crime-infested parasites
living in the ghetto called Barrio 13, which is classified by the government as B13, even the
government has even gone to the trouble of closing down all the hospitals, schools and other
public buildings within the sector of that city, barricading all the scum within B13 by placing a
enormous large concrete wall around it. They hope one day they will all eventually kill themselves
with the poisons pumped into their veins. When things couldn’t get any worst Paris's most wanted
drug lord named Taha (Bibi Naceri, who also co-wrote the script) rules the Barrio 13 ghetto with
his army of street thugs. That’s until one of his former henchmen Leito (David Belle) who happens
to know Taha better than himself, decides enough is enough, so he tries to clean up the streets
by taking out the big dog and handing him over to the police, with the help of his little sister Lola
(Dany Verissimo) who was kidnapped by Taha’s main man K2 (Tony D'Amario) at that given time.
That following same day the police station in B13 happens to be getting shut down by the
government, and even though they have Paris's most wanted drug lord in their station, they
decide to set him free and arrest Leito instead. Just until they can get the hell out of the city,
and leave it to the Taha's and his scum thugs. But that’s not all Taha wants, he demands the
police chiefs and his crew lives for Lola life. It doesn't take long for the police chief to make a
decision- he quickly surrenders Lola to him and leaves the station with his thugs awaiting him
outside. Leito becomes furious and takes the police chiefs life by snapping his neck, since he feed
his innocent sister to a the enemy.
Six months later the tough and honest Capt. Damien Tomaso (Cyril Raffaelli) is assigned to go
undercover as a prison inmate while on the same day Leito is being transferred to another prison.
Tomaso has to somehow find his way through the streets of Barrio 13 and infiltrate the Taha's pad
so he can deactivate a dirty bomb which has automatically been activated and now able to kill
over two million people. Together Leito and Capt Tomaso team up and face Taha gang of thugs,
while trying to disarm the bomb within the next 24 hours and save half the city from being blasted
to hell.
Whoa, this movie is friggin unbelievable! I cannot believe how much extreme action was shown in
this movie. Within the first 5 minutes of the movie, you can feel the movie simply kicking right into
overdrive and doesn’t stop until the credits begin to roll. It felt like I was on an unattended
rollercoaster ride that never stopped once for about 85 minutes. The roof top chase scene was
shear brilliance, never have I seen a foot chase quiet like that before. I mean Leito is being
chased by Taha head henchman K2 and his thugs and watching Leito jumping from roof top to roof
top, climbing pipes and ladders like he was a monkey, swinging from a rope and around a building
managing to boot a few guys in the head, like he was an unmasked Spiderman. I still am
currently shocked, and overwhelmingly stunned by the constant bone crunching and realistic
action scenes within this film. There haven’t been too many action actors who can really blow
your mind on screen apart from actors Jackie Chan (Rush Hour), Jason Statman (Transporter) or
Tony Jaa (Omg Bak). I can officially now say both actors David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli have
joined that hard hitting martial arts list.
If you are a huge fan of fast paced Kung Fu action flicks, then District B13 is going to be right up
your alleyway. I cannot fault this movie one bit, I loved every microsecond of it, Director Pierre
Morel couldn’t picked a better cast to star in this film, and I am I going to give this film two
thumbs up from me. Yes that’s right kiddies, District B13 gets the seal of approval and scores a
10 out of 10 skulls. But be warned this film does can contain a nasty K.O (knock out) of hard
hitting extreme action scenes, I am still currently feeling a tingling numbness of excitement
throughout my body.
