When a boozed out animal trainer is forced to let go of his Bengal tigers because he can no longer
afford to feed them, he decides to put some fear into a quiet suburban called Hamlet in California.
The police department and local detective John Gosford (Tom Skerritt) are simply baffled and work
together to come up with a way to catch the ferocious felines before they viscously attack and
kill someone.
Wild Eye DVD presents an old classic TV movie called Maneaters Are Loose, which was first
originally aired in May 1978 across all the TV waves in America. Those who are not too familiar
with Wild Eye, they’re a small company that love to find those hard but not forgotten TV movies
that in one point of our life we watched and enjoyed tremendously. Maneaters Are Loose didn’t
really bring back any of my old child hood memories, and watching this for the first time in this day
of age, was definitely still a treat.
Maneaters Are Loose is filled with a bunch of well known cast members that we all know. The
cast is made up of actor Tom Skerritt whom has starred in over one hundred movies and TV
movies we all grew up on, with such hits like Alien (1979), Poltergeist III: The Final Chapter
(1988) and Aftershock: Earthquake in New York (1999) just to name a few. Tom Skerritt is one
brilliant actor and even in this early movie, the guy still knew how to work the camera and bring
his character to life on screen. You will see other big named actors such as the likes of Steve
Forrest, Harry Morgan who you all know from the hit TV show Mash, and even Dabney Coleman
from another loved TV show called The Beverly Hillbillies (1993) as the bank manager Mr
Drysdale. There are so many other big named faces in this show, just trying to match their faces
to another show was just as fun in itself.
The picture quality of the movie is pretty bad, it’s just a shame that Wild Eye couldn’t have
perhaps cleaned up the film a little. To me it looked like they just took an old VHS and then
converted it to DVD and added in some nice looking menus. But you can still manage to see what
is going on, and the audio is spot on, though the picture quality is probably the only bad thing
about this film. The storyline itself was very enjoyable to veg out too, and not to mention the
cast members were a blast to watch.
Though I have to give both thumbs up and most of all a lot of respect to Wild Eye, for being able
to release this old creature feature flick onto DVD. Without companies like Wild Eye, movies like
Maneaters Are Loose and Shark Kill would fade away and be lost forever. So if you are a full on
lover of Man Vs Beast or even like to have a old flash back of this old TV movie, then this is your
final chance to do so right now.
