"Imagine your worst nightmare,
machines take over the world!"
Maximum Overdrive
DVD/APPROX. 98 MINS/1986/USA R18+
It's June the 19th of 1986, and a comet by the name of Rhea-M has just passed the earth, and the tail of the comet somehow made all mechanical
devices on earth go haywire and out of control. For 8 days, man built machines all go on a death and destruction rampage, and start killing their
creators. Bill Robinson (Emilio Estevez) is a young ex-con who hates his job at the Dixie Boy Diner. His fat ass, lazy ass boss Hendershot (Pat
Hingle) loves hiring ex-cons who are on parole so he can work them to the bone for free. If they act up, he makes one phone call and they are
back in the clink. But when the comet passes over, every truck from all over America somehow comes driving to this one truck stop where there is
still some human life. These trucks have minds of their own, and all that they want is for Bill and the rest of the humans in the Dixie Boy Diner to fill
their tanks up with gas so they can stay survive. If Bill and his friends don't do what the trucks demand, they will crash into Dixie Boy Diner and
crush, kill, destroy them all. So one by one the people take turns filling the hundreds and thousands of Trucks lined up on the interstate.

Meanwhile, the people work on a plan, 'cause sooner or later the gas pumps are going to dry up and the trucks will come crashing straight into
truck stop anyways. The people plan to sneak out of the truck shop though the sewer, and then get to the shipping docks so they can take a
yacht to an island. Will they stay alive for 8 more days until the comets tail has finally passed the earth atmosphere?!

This is another one of Stephen King’s stories that has been made into a movie, and has to be one of my favourite Stephen King novel movies. But
there are some things that don't make sense. The comets tail effects all mechanical devices for example trucks, planes, ice-cream vans, lawn
mowers, gas pumps, electric knifes... etc. But for some reason it doesn't effect cars and boats. Apart from that, this film has some awesome effects
and scenes. The start of it is a classic; you get to see a car pile up when the bridges rise by themselves and the cars and trucks on the bridge all
crash on top of each other. Another thing I like is the look of the joker truck, which is the leader of all the big rigs. What draws you into this movie
the most is the soundtrack, nothing but AC/DC all though out the whole entire film. So if you are an AC/DC fan or love big rigs this movie is for you.
Also this story was re-done back in the 1997, but that film ended up being called
Trucks (1997), which is also the name of his short story that
Maximum Overdrive was based on in 1986.

I highly recommend you give Stephen King’s
Maximum Overdrive a watch, it is truly a cult classic and very entertaining.
