In 1975 legendary director Steven Spielberg created one of the most terrifying Man Vs Beast
masterpieces ever, to this very day. That film was called
Jaws, ever since then other filmmakers
across the globe have tried to cash in on Spielberg’s glory. Now saying that, I am happy to
present to you, another shark tale called
Shark Kill.

Shark Kill is about a 15ft great white shark that happens to have s taste for human blood, as it
slowly patrols an oil rig and manages to attack and severely injure and disfigure two deep sea oil
workers. It’s not long after the oil company puts up a 20 grand reward for the blood thirsty beasts
head, which sends the whole coastal town into a fish hunt frenzy. A former US Marine/light weight
boxing champion Cabo Mendoza (Richard Yniguez) is out on his own vendetta to kill the cold
blooded beast which attacked his brother, which left him limbless and laying in a hospital bed.
Mendoza soon teams up with marine biologist Rick Dayner (Phillip Clark) who is looking for his big
chance to get a big score and buy his very own boat. The two men set sail on the deep blue sea
on a old beat up 18ft boat, with Dayner high tech toys and Mendoza’s explosive cocktail, nothing
is going to stop them. That’s until that late afternoon, the boat breaks down on the open waters,
and a large un-man vessel rams right into them and causing the two hunters treading water, while
the great white swims deep beneath their feet.

Wild Eye presents us with another Man Vs Beast creature feature called
Shark Kill. Originally aired
on America television on the 20th of May 1976, this chilling TV movie film wasn’t as successful as
Spielberg’s film, but still at that point of time was most loved. For about 30 years this movie was
lost and forgotten, well that’s until Wild Eye got their hands on it and released it on DVD for our
enjoyment.

I would love to say that
Shark Kill is original and fresh, but sadly this isn’t the case. Shark Kill is
a low budget version of
Jaws, minus all the dramatic building tension which Jaws manages to
slowly build up leaving its viewer sitting on the edge of their seats.
Shark Kill isn’t a waste of time
to watch, it does offer a good amount of intense drama, but being huge love for Man Vs Beast
films I just couldn’t stop thinking how simular the storyline is to
Jaws. But once I got my head
around that, I can seriously say I started to get right into this film.

Again the only downfall with this movie is the picture quality. Which is why I can only rate this
movie a 4 ½ skulls out of 10. It’s great to know that Wild Eye was able to release this film on
DVD, with some really cool looking menus. But sadly this didn’t save the film, if only they cleaned
up the picture a tad, the movie would no doubt have gotten a higher rating.

S
hark Kill is a definitely must have for all those fans out their in cyber land that love Man Vs
Beast films or even perhaps a huge fan of
Jaws. Or even if you want to refresh your 70s
childhood memories once again, this is also a must have. So saying that, I suggest one day when
you have nothing else to watch, make sure you check out
Shark Kill before we lose it for another
30 years.
