Shockheaded
DVD/APPROX. 85 MINS/2002/USA UNRATED
Noble (Jason Wauer), who chain smokes, drinks heavily & suffers from sharp headaches, has just recently moved into a new apartment, where,
everyday, he receives weird phone calls and mysterious red envelopes under his door, which contains cryptic messages, until on day, he wakes up
to find two "concerned" civilians, dressed in trench coats, standing in his apartment. They want to know where the previous tenant, who is an
actress (Debbie Rochon), has gone. They’re trying to track her down because she owes them money. Noble tells the two guys that he doesn't
know who the previous tenant was or even where she is now. They don't really believe him and warn Noble that they’re going to be keeping a
close eye on him. As soon as they leave Noble becomes determined to find the missing girl. He gets a tip from a strange man holding an umbrella,
who is standing outside his apartment. He too, is looking for the actress. Before you know it, Noble discovers a pirate TV station that airs S&M
fetish films, in which he realizes one of the girls in the film is actually the actress everyone is looking for. He starts his way from the underground
porn industry and works his way up, finding clues, and before you know it, he discovers the girl's whereabouts. But Noble starts having weird
dreams of a man in a white mask, is the stress getting to him, is it just his imagination, will he crack? Can Noble rescue the young girl and save the
day, or will he be too late to stop her pretty little face from appearing on the back of a milk carton?
Shockheaded reminded me so much of films like Videodrome, Lost Highway & 8MM. Noble is a man who has his own demons to fight, he’s either,
drinking, smoking or tripping out and seeing things that aren’t actually there. And, with all of that on his plate, he has to find & rescue a woman he
has never seen before, until one night when he turned the TV over and saw a women being flogged, punched & raped. Shockheaded took a while
to get into and it slowly built up to an awesome ending, but most of the time I kinda kept on clicking to see when the film was going to finish. Shit,
I nearly said fuck it & turned it off, but I was glad I didn't. The ending is filled with shoot outs, sword fighting, a little bit of snuff & you get to figure
out who was behind the white mask. All of the of the actors in this film, apart from scream queen Debbie Rochon, are all unknown actors, but they
all did an awesome job in bringing their characters to life. There isn’t much gore or blood in Shockheaded, which I thought was pretty piss poor,
because it could’ve at least done with a few bucket loads.
Those who are a fan of Videodrome, Lost Highway & 8MM will probably end up loving this film to death. It’s a cool film to watch, but just takes
awhile to get into. Obviously, the ending is what makes it worth sticking around to watch, that’s for sure.
