Soul Searcher
DVD/APPROX. 98 MINS/2005/ENGLAND PG13+
Joe Fallow (Ray Bullock Jnr) is your average honest hardworking type of guy, who is trying to make ends meet by working the night shift by
cleaning the streets in the city's street sweeper. One night at work, Joe witnesses the strangest thing he could ever imagine, he has a encounter
with the Grim Reaper (Johnny Lewis) himself, who has lately been chasing down demonic entities that have escaped from the depths of hell. The
Grim Reaper is looking for a new apprentice so he can hang up his cloak and scythe, to stop the demons from upsetting the balance between
good and evil. Though if Joe becomes the number one contender for the job, he then looses his best friend Gary (Chris Hatherall) and having a love
life with the one women Heather (Katrina Cooke) who he desperately wants, but sadly can’t have cause she has a boyfriend. Joe agrees to the job
conditions, and signs the deal agreeing to clean the streets of demons, ghouls and other supernatural evil forces that threaten to merge Hell and
Earth together.
Soul Searcher would have to be one of the most highly entertaining, action packed, demon ass kicking films I have seen in a hell of a long time.
Filmmaker Neil Oseman concept to the Grim Reaper is a little different to most other films. As we all know the Grim Reaper is dark, evil and is
portrayed as one evil bastard. This isn't the case for Soul Searcher, as the grim reaper is more of a man, than a skeleton figure, using his scythe
to destroy the demonic creatures from the underworld. I was truly impressed with the action within Soul Searcher, reason being that director
Oseman has spiced the old bag of bones a bit and made him more of a full on in your face kung-fu fighting machine, throwing left and right jabs,
upper cuts and the good old round house kicks to his enemies heads. It just blows me away to see a micro-budget film to have the fight scenes so
well choreographed.
The cast all did a fantastic job with their characters in this film, I can’t find one flaw when it comes to the acting as it was good viewing and the
dialogue was realistic. Actor Ray Bullock Jr was very convincing to watch and definitely the man who stole the spotlight, with his kung-fu fighting
and acting abilities. Richard Brake was another actor I was very impressed with, his fighting abilities when it came to using swords…well it looked
like he just stepped off the set of a highlander film all fired up.
With a budget of £26,000 there isn't much of a gore factor to Soul Searcher, to tell you the truth it would of had as much blood in it as a Buffy The
Vampire or Charmed episode from TV, but this film is more enjoyable to watch due to the action fight scenes and digital effects added into the film.
I never thought I could enjoy watching a horror film that hasn't got hardly any blood or gore in the film. Damn was I was wrong.
As for the DVD extra department of Soul Searcher, damn where do I begin… After watching the film I was blown away with the amount of extras
presented on this awesome film. You get to watch a documentary called Going to Hell: The Making of Soul Searcher that runs for good solid hour
and a half, and it just goes to show how much blood, sweat and tears that goes behind this feature film. Another extra I couldn't get enough of
watching was the Lo-Tec FX featurette, where it shows you a step by step on how easy it is to add simple digital effects to a movie. A blooper reel,
19 deleted scenes with commentaries, behind the scenes stills, director, cast and crew commentaries and that’s just the tip of the ice berg, there is
so much more extras added into this film (just read below for more details).
We at DVD Resurrections can't recommend this film enough guys, Soul Searcher is a highly entertaining film and rises over the top of many other
independent films, and not only that it is made for the whole family to enjoy and sit down to watch.

In the British fantasy film SOUL SEARCHER, an ailing Grim Reaper approaches street sweeper Joe Fallow and offers to train him as his replacement. Meanwhile, a villainous force threatens to merge Hell and Earth. Only Joe--assisted by a supernatural bounty-hunter--can stop this from happening.
