"Let The Manhunt Begin"
Breed, The
DVD/APPROX. 87 MINS/2006/USA R18+
Two brothers, Matt (Eric Lively) and John (Oliver Hudson), are joined by Matt's girlfriend, Nicki (Michelle Rodriguez), as well as Sara (Taryn Manning)
and Noah (Hill Harper). They're all flying to a cabin on a remote island for a weekend of drinking and relaxation before college exams next week.
Sara finds a wandering puppy outside the cabin, and she straight away falls in love with the pup and decides to take care of it, until that following
night, when she hears a growling sound in the bushes, before she can do anything she's attacked by the pup's mother. John scares off the viscous
dog and helps Sara get back inside. Sara is in total shock and is afraid of catching rabies from the rabid dog that bit her leg, but Matt, who is
studying to become a veterinarian, calms her down by telling her that there's no way a dog on the island could have rabies, but if she wants to
leave the island they'll leave first thing in the morning. Sara takes Matt's advice and decides to stay at the cabin for a few more days and party
with her friends. The next morning Nicki notices a slight change in Sara's behavior while the guys are out wandering through the bush hunting for
something to kill with John's bow and arrows. Matt, John and Noah are startled when they find a man, covered head to toe in blood and his clothes
torn to shreds, walking towards them yelling "They don't want us here". As this happens, one of the wild dogs comes jumping out of the bushes,
knocking him down the side of the hill where the rest of the pack move in for the kill, ripping him apart while he's screaming in fear. Matt, concerned
about his girlfriend, heads back to the cabin, where they see a pack of rabid dogs on the hillside looking down on the two girls. Matt tells the girls
to quickly run towards the cabin, where they are all chased by the wild dogs. All five friends try to think of ways to get to the plane or off the island
before the dogs find their way into the cabin. Matt ends up finding notes in the attic that explain the USA Army has genetically re-designed the
dog's DNA, now making them into a pack of flesh eating mutant killer dogs.

The Breed is a like any other dog chomping horror movie (Cujo, Old Yeller, Rottweiler) you have seen before, but is still definitely worth checking
out, that's for sure. You even have the man himself, Wes Craven, who's name appears in the credits at the start of the film, as an executive
producer, so you know since he has something to do with it that it has too have a few good scares, which it does, believe me. I have to admit, I'm
a big fan of Michelle Rodriguez, and there's no doubt at all that she stole the spotlight in this movie. Is there anything this girl can't do, she can be
half dead and still kick anyone or anything's ass, way to go girl. There are some scenes that will simply blow you away, especially when John
grabbed a hold of a bow and nailed a dog that was jumping at Nicki in mid air, plus Nicki played GTA with a few dogs in the car, which totally spun
me out. The visual effects artist, Simon Hansen, really out did himself with the CGI in
The Breed, not to mention special effects artist, Anton Voster,
showed some really sweet gore scenes throughout the film too.

So, if you're looking for a new killer dog movie that's highly entertaining, well this is the movie you'll want to watch and own on DVD. Fans of
Stephen King's
Cujo will definitely enjoy this movie. It has to be, by far, the best creature feature I have probably seen this year.

A group of friends (Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively and Hill Harper) fly
away to a deserted island for a weekend excursion. They soon realize that this beautiful getaway was
once controlled by a special canine research unit and will soon become their biggest nightmare.
Inspired by the horror classics,
Cujo and The Birds, The Breed takes you into the jaws of a flesh eating
pack of wild dogs, genetically engineered to hunt and kill. Outnumbered and trapped they struggle to
outsmart and outrun this terrifying species.
