Ebola Syndrome was directed by Herman Yau who also created one of the most brutal and sickest Hong Kong movies of all time, Bunman: The
Untold Story (1993) also starring actor Anthony Wong. I can honestly say I've never really had much taste for Foreign movies, the whole having
to read while watching a movie just didn’t do it for me a few years back. But a good mate of mine introduced me to the Asian genre, lending me a
handful of DVDs like Junk (2000), Versus (2000) and Wild Zero (2000) basically breaking my viewing cherry and opening up a new door of
cinema which I had never thought I would ever consider giving the light of day. It wasn’t long after that I began to track down other foreign gems
such as The Guinea Pig Series, Bio Zombie (1998) and of course Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991) which officially made me a massive fan of
Asian cinema. For years I heard so many good things about Ebola Syndrome but never had the pleasure of watching it, well that was until our
sponsor Siren Visual sent us a copy to check out.
So, what are my actual thoughts on Herman Yau’s Ebola Syndrome? Fuck where do I even begin? This movie must be one of the most repulsive,
disturbing and somewhat frighteningly shocking little gems that I’ve seen. It has a Quentin Tarantino feel right through to the every end and most
of all Anthony Wong plays his role in this movie to perfection. If his character isn’t banging dirty whores from country to country, he is fucking a
piece of rump steak in the back of the restaurant, jizzing into it and serving it up on a plate for a customer to bite into (and the wife wonders why I
don’t go out to eat). If that doesn’t make you screw your face up or even tickle your viewing taste buds well prepare to be stunned when you see
him slaughter every poor son of a bitch into a bloody pulp and begin to make mince patties out of them.
To this day you hear cases of the Bird Flu pandemic in Hong Kong and after watching Ebola Syndrome you can kind of understand why the hell
places like this become breeding grounds for such lethal diseases like Ebola and the Bird Flu. Over-populated areas where people are shoulder to
shoulder in the streets, the quality of food is cat and dog, shitty drinking water that not even a Mexican would consider touching. And all it takes it
just one passenger who becomes infected with a contagious disease and is able to infect hundreds and thousands of people in a matter of days,
just by simply coughing or sneezing onto the person who is standing shoulder length away.
Ebola Syndrome is a fantastic movie that every viewer will seriously get a kick out of watching. Unless you are a part of P.E.T.A or work for the
R.S.P.C.A then you might not like seeing live green frogs getting sliced up or chickens being beheaded and chewed off by South Africans in a ritual.
Other than that, if you purchase this movie I highly doubt that you would be the least bit disappointed, it’s Asian cinema at its finest and once you
pop the DVD into your player your eyes wont leave the television until you see the credits roll at the every end. I can’t recommend Ebola
Syndrome enough guys, make sure you check this title out as soon as you can, you really don’t know what you’re missing out on.
