This awesome 3 disc set thanks to Madman Entertainment and VIA Vision has not only got the original mini-series of V (a 80s Sci-fi television hit
which aired across Australia in 1983) but you’re also presented with the sequel ‘The Final Battle’ along with it. Just after the original writer,
Kenneth Johnson shortly left after the V (1983) mini-series ended, writers Craig Buck and Diane Frolov both put their heads together and created
one of the most epic sequels you can ever imagine which ended up blowing the minds of V fans right out this world and into one of the fifty mother
spaceships that hovers in orbit over every major city in the world. As the resistance gets word of the visitors whereabouts they decide now it is
the best time to raid the so called “friendly” visitors food processing plant which was cling wrapping coma tossed human beings as a delicatessen
for their long trip back home, as their world has a very short supply of water and food. Mike Donovan (Marc Singer - The Beastmaster) only
concern is to save his wife and son from one of the fifty mother ships by disguising himself as a visitor and boards a transporting spaceship. As
the resistance join forces with weapons/covert operations specialist Ham Tyler (Michael Ironside - Starship Troopers) they come up with a master
plan that will bring the visitors to their knees as they now hold a valuable key: a new born baby/alien hybrid that Robin Maxwell (Blair Tefkin - Fast
Times at Ridgemont High) just gave birth to. The scientists are now able to create a deadly pathogen “Red Dust” which causes an allergic reaction
that effects the visitors immune system which results in instant death.
How friggin cool was it growing up and your parents allowing you to stay up late on a school night to watch V on tellie that was the same size of a
monitor nowadays. Still to this day I have flashbacks of those wonderful weeknights watching this cool Sci-fi show, pigging out on pop corn with
the oldies. The first time I saw one of the visitors chow down a little white mouse I flipped out, until I got to see what they exactly were under the
skin. Those green slimy lizard faced animal eating aliens, pretending to be humans, which honestly at that time didn’t scare me one bit as I was
already corrupted after watching The Evil Dead (1981). What I would do to be able to go back to those days and relive those wonderful
memories once again… Hang on a minute, nar fuck that… I have both series on DVD now, what the hell was I thinking? V was one of the dozens
cool television series ever to come out of the ‘80s, it’s right up there with other shows I loved when I was young The A Team (1983), Knight
Rider (1982), Amazing Stories (1985), Starman (1986), Married With Children (1987) and ALF (1986), yeah I said it, that little hairy cat
eating alien was the shit back then. You couldn’t beat the late ‘70s and right through the ‘80s as it was the era of sci-fi freaks to go mad since the
release of George Lucas Star Wars (1977) people couldn’t get enough. Which was good in a way, because it opened the door to television
stations to begin pumping out classic sci-fi shows like Alien Nation (1989), Galactica 1980 (1980) and not to forget Battlestar Galactica
(1978) into our homes.
The cast selected in V are pretty well known actors today. One in mind, a lot of you guys would be familiar with is a very young and unmasked
Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) who plays as one of the visitors which means no harm. Roberts character Willie, you simply feel deeply for and
want to reach in and give the guy a huge hug as he is not like the other visitors. Matt Singer who you all know from a ‘80s barbarian movie called
The Beastmaster (1982) did a remarkable job with the role he had to play in V. But the one actor or should I say actress who I believe stole the
spotlight would have been the beautiful Jane Badler, who over the years has appeared in many well known television shows within her career. The
reason why I enjoyed her performance is not just her gorgeous looks but the way Jane was able to hold her character Diana making her believable
and entertaining to watch. I must admit even in half lizard and human form she was still very hot to trot for.
For such an old television show the special effects and visual effects aren’t too shabby. No it’s nothing like the stuff you see nowadays, but the
show still can hold up and probably give a lot of other shows a good run for its money. If you enjoy watching shit being blown up and laser gun
shoot outs then this will satisfy the sci-fi geek within you.
V - The Original Miniseries / The Final Battle 3 disc DVD set is a must own without a doubt, if you were growing up in the ‘80s well why don’t you
relive your childhood couch potato memories and purchase this fantastic release right now, though you better hurry because these disc sets will be
scoffed up like hot pancakes at a Biggest Loser house.
