When Evil Reigns
Chris (Alix Jackson) and his friends have just finished school and are hanging outside
chatting, when a thunder storm slowly makes its way across the city of Melbourne. Rain
begins to pour, and all of sudden, right in front of their school, they hear the sound of
car tires screeching and then a loud crash. A young girl, who had been riding a bike,
has just gotten splattered all over the road, and the driver, who gets out of his car in the
rain to see if the girl is still alive, unexpectedly opens the boot of his car, pulls out a
sledge hammer and attempts and bash the girl’s head in, putting her out of misery.
Chris and his friends are terrified of what they have just seen, and as they look around,
they see a handful of people bleeding, twitching and dragging their feet, coming
towards them. They quickly go back in the school and lock the doors, as one of them
tries to grab Chris through the iron fence door in an attempt to kill him. Frightened and
scared, they try to call the police and report the accident they had just witnessed,
however, for some reason there’s no answer at the police station. In the distance they
can hear people screaming and crying for help throughout the city, while the rain still
continues to pour down. Chris is soon joined by other students in the hallway who had
also heard the car crash. Chris then explains to them what just happened and they
team together to lock down the school for their own safety, or just until they can figure
out what exactly is going on and why people are being so violent. It’s now night time
and there are a dozen or so homicidal flesh eating maniacs outside the school, trying
to find a way in so they can bash, kill and eat Chris and his school friends alive. Can
they escape the school or will they be torn apart limb by limb.

Both brothers, Alix and Luke Jackson, teamed together to make this micro low budget
film, When Evil Reigns, for $5000. It took them 6 long years to create this hard hitting,
violent slasher film that will shock movie viewers. When Evil Reigns is a movie with
unnamed actors and even Alix Jackson plays the lead role in this film as Chris, his
acting skills steal the spotlight, no doubt, and so do his special effects, which I will talk
about soon. The other cast members acting skills aren’t too bad, though I did find
myself a little bored. I don't know if it was their acting or the sound guys fault, cause the
from time to time it was hard to hear exactly what they were saying to each other, I kept
having to turn up the sound and down throughout the whole movie. That has to be the
biggest downfall with When Evil Reigns, though it’s a good script and an awesome
idea for a movie.

The people outside the school in the rain are kinda like flesh eating zombies but if they
bit a chunk out of someone, they didn't become infected at all. The only way to become
infected was if the rain water touched your skin. There was something in the rain that
turned humans, minutes later, into serial flesh eating killers, who didn't feel pain at all
and who would stop at nothing to get to you. If these two bothers had a bigger budget
and a tighter script, their movie would be playing in every cinema across the world. Alix
also did the special FX in When Evil Reigns, there’s a 30 minute guide where Alix
shows you how to do four special FX tricks with cheap household products and have
outstanding effects, which I was blown away by. No offense to Alix and Luke but I have
to say I enjoyed watching his teaching skills a bit more than his film, Alix shows you how
to create a slit wrist effect, bullet hole effect, a bite mark effect and a wound that has
stitches effect, all these effects take only 15 minutes to do and when he is finished, they
look like something Tom Savini himself had roughly done. Just makes me wanna pick
up a camera and create my own zombie film now, thanks to Alix and his special effects
tips of course.

The Jackson brother’s film, When Evil Reigns, is a good first attempt at film making,
like I said before if these guys had a bigger budget their film would be playing cinemas
across the world. But they only had a budget of $5000, still they did a fucking awesome
job, I think after time and a few trial and error's these brothers will fully become well
known Aussie film makers just like the Spierig brothers who brought us Undead back
in 2003.

Keep up the awesome work guys and don't give up what ya doing, personally I’m
looking forward to seeing what your next film brings.
