Zombie Night begins with a couple and their young daughter are driving back from a camping trip. Suddenly, their car completely dies and won’t
start, due to a number of nukes that have been set off across the world. The family quickly seeks shelter from the nuclear fallout in a near by
basement of an old abandoned warehouse, unaware that the dead have been resurrected and Hell on earth has just begun. It's not long after,
they encounter a few survivors that had to kill their a family member or a loved ones, due to the infectious disease that has turned many humans
into zombies. Day by day, the group finds other survivors and the group soon begins to grow into a small colony, as day by day more survivors find
their way to the warehouse, where unfortunately they have a limited supply of food and water, while everywhere around them they’re being
overrun by the living dead. They all team together to fight off the flesh hungry zombies and try to survive as long as they can until the government
can find a cure for this sick disease.
Independent film maker David J. Francis brings us this zombie gorefest film, Zombie Night, which clearly pays homage to George Romero’s Dead
series and which is also dedicated to his loving wife Amber Lynn Francis (R.I.P). When I started watching Zombie Night I kind of thought I was in
for another cheese fest lame zombie film, well I was wrong, this film was actually pretty decent, and the gore was spot on. The zombie make up
wasn’t done by a special effects artist like Tom Savini, but the zombies kind of reminded me a little bit of Dawn of the Dead, where their faces and
hands were painted greyish, and blood dripped and bubbled from their mouths. The zombies are also slow moving which makes this film a lot more
enjoyable to watch, and those who get bitten from a zombie, to save on ammo, have the choice of either jumping headfirst off a building or having
their skulls bashed in by whatever’s around. Just wait until you see the shotgun blast to the zombie’s leg scene, FUCK what an awesome scene
that was. Gorehounds don't worry you get your good share of gore, that’s for sure.
The acting is probably the thing that brings this film down a few notches. Yeah it’s an independent film and the actors are all unknown but still
some of the characters in this film were completely unrealistic when they died. Not to mention they kept letting this one guy off the hook, he tried
to take over the group and become the head leader, stole food, water and ammo from the colony, shot a some poor guy in the gut to save himself
and slit a girls throat open, and still, these fuckers took pity on him and just throw him out of the warehouse. This had me so pissed I kept yelling
at the TV, hoping they’d fucking gut the dickhead alive and use him for zombie bait. That part of the movie just didn’t make any sense to me what
so ever.
Overall, Primal Films Studio Zombie Night has its highs and lows in the end. If you enjoy independent zombie films like Meat Market, well this film is
probably down your track and you’ll want to check this baby out. For those who are hardcore zombies fans and take their films seriously, well
sorry, you might wanna give this movie a miss. But make no mistake, Zombie Night is a cool film, just don't expect blockbuster effects and acting.
