Looks like Beyond Home Entertainment are about to release a 2 disc collectors edition of George A. Romero's cult hit Night of the Living Dead. I don't know about you, but i have honestly lost count of the amount of times this film has been re-released on DVD. Every time they release another DVD its usually around the Anniversary mark, which is understandable, but really do we need another DVD release year in, year out.
Just like dozens of other releases the film hasn't changed one bit, apart from the cover and it mentioning its the 40th anniversary edition, the film contains the same old extras which have appeared on several other previous releases.
Special Features: • Fact booklet • Original theatrical trailer • Original screenplay • Audio commentary by George A. Romero • Feature length documentary • Stills Gallery
For those of you who are yet to see this mighty fine film, here is a quick synopsis on what you have been missing out on.
"A army of advancing zombies with a bloodthirsty lust for human flesh force a lone group of human survivors to seek refuge in a farmhouse. Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and the only way to kill them is with a blow or gun shot to the head. As the small farmhouse community tries to fend off the onslaught of the dead, the tension builds to an apocalyptic conclusion as a petrol pump and pick-up truck offer the only hope of escape."
Kudos for Beyond to release a Night of the Living Dead: 40th Anniversary 2 Disc Edition, this prize re-release is probably targeted for two types of viewers - hardcore Night of the Living Dead collectors and first-time-viewers. All i can say is this one Romero fan is going to PASS up on this release, as he couldn't be bothered buying another DVD as he already own 3 different versions of the film...
