Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling presented Lockdown live on April, 19 2009 from the hardcore wrestling capital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! TNA's most barbaric event of the year featured every match held inside the unforgiving Six Sides of Steel. Witness the Violence and brutality of the match that was two decades in the making, between "Hardcore Legend" - Mick Foley and The TNA World Heavyweight Champion - "The Icon" - Sting. With more brutal bonus material than ever before, this dvd is loaded! TNA WRESTLING. CROSS THE LINE!
Thus does Madman hype the DVD release of one of TNA's biggest yearly pay per views. And actually they're pretty close to the money in their hype. This is one of the better wrestling extravaganzas to be put together recently. I saw it at the time, and it holds up well to a viewing now, even knowing the outcome of all the matches. If you aren't a regular viewer on TNA you'll miss a bit not knowing the back story to the matches, but the announcers do a good job of recapping as they go along so you're not lost either.
Unlike WWE, TNA uses a six sided ring, and for this show, all the matches were steel cage matches of one form or another hence “Six Sides of Steel”. This had the potential to get old long before the main event, but using a variety of rules including one match that merely had to be ended in the cage TNA kept things fresh for the duration.

This is a very professionally shot event. There's nothing really surprising or innovative about it, but then again it's a wrestling Pay Per View, not an art film. It does what it has to do and does it well.

The audio presented is in a Dolby Digital 2.0 surround sound. Kinda of the same as watching a pay-per-view show.

The bonus material is a mixed bag. There's a match between Eric Young and former Partridge Family and current reality TV star Danny Bonaduce that's not bad for a novelty match, some interviews and a crappy music video.

For those not familiar with TNA, they have a mix of up and coming wrestlers along with veterans who will be familiar to old school wrestling fans. This DVD features the likes of Sting, Kurt Angle, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash and Team 3D, (better known as The Dudleys), Booker T and TNA founder Jeff Jarrett along side the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Suicide, Matt Morgan and Abyss.
I'm going top go way out on a limb here and say that with the mix of new talent and veterans TNA is actually better than WWE at the moment and this DVD is a good example of why they are. Good talent, good matches and great wrestling.
I'm recommending this to everyone who likes wrestling be it old school or the newer indie style. TNA manages to mix the two up quite well and you'll have a great time no matter what your preference.
