--THE PLOT
|
Fifteen years ago, five friends were abducted by aliens and their lives were changed forever. Unfortunately, only four of them, Duke (Brad William Henke), Wyatt (Adam Kaufman), Cody (Paul McCarthy Boyington Jr) and Otis (Michael C. Williams) returned to earth.
For some strange reason Wyatt was kept by the aliens for several more days and the aliens performed multiple experiments on him. These experiments somehow altered him, making him understand, feel and communicate with the aliens but he also has a hidden dark power that even the aliens are afraid of.
Ever since the day they were abducted Wyatt has tried his best to get on with his life the best he can, though the other three wanted to seek revenge on the aliens.
One night they get their wish and capture an alien, planning on torturing as revenge for the death of their friend. Afraid of what they have just done and what is going to happen to them, they decide to take the alien to Wyatt's house to see if he can help them. Wyatt senses that the alien is sending a distress signal to the mother ship and wastes no time in cutting open the alien's stomach and ripping out its organs in search for the transmitter (a "clicker") to destroy it, hoping to GOD the aliens didn't receive the signal. It's too late, though, and the aliens are coming...
The four men and Wyatt's beautiful girlfriend Hope (Catherine Mangan) all find themselves fighting off dozens of pissed off, flesh-hungry aliens.

--FINAL THOUGHTS
|
The creator of The Blair Witch Project is back and this time brings us a another mind-blowing horror/sci fi movie involving four men who were abducted by aliens. Actor Michael C. Williams, who also starred in The Blair Witch Project as Mike Williams, was cast in this film as well. Directer Eduardo Sanchez did a fantastic job in writing and shooting this film! WOW! I just can't get over how fucking awesome this film was! Compared to The Blair Witch Project, this guy has done it again...Altered will definitely be a horror/sci fi masterpiece without a doubt, and I can't wait to see the sequel to it already.
Altered is a very intense, in your face alien abduction film, though sadly you don't see any abductions or aliens performing any experiments or using probes on the four men. Instead, it cuts straight into the three friends hunting the alien in the forest - Duke armed with a shotgun, Cody with a large harpoon spear gun and Otis with a rifle. These guys were already prepared and have set dozens of bear traps to capture the alien alive. Within not even 2 minutes you are instantly hooked on this film, and I don't think I blinked once throughout the whole film.
The acting was awesome, I can't say one thing wrong with it. It wasn't cheesy, it wasn't boring and all the cast did a tremendous job bringing each character to life. The guy who stole the spotlight would have to be Paul McCarthy Boyington Jr. Who played Cody, a wife beater with an ass kicking redneck attitude who doesn't take any shit...before he becomes infected by the alien and his skin slowly starts to peel off layer by layer.
The little green alien isn't what you have seen on the X-Files, E.T or any other alien sci-fi film/show. These little green bastards are vicious and mean and have long sharp teeth, claws and can run like Carl Lewis at a KKK rally. And if you stare into their eyes, they then can control your body to do what ever they want. The alien creature was played by actor Misty Rosas, and she did the most incredible job i have ever seen in any alien abduction film.
Now, I won't get right into the gore scenes, cause I don't wanna spoil this film for you, but let me say that the gore will satisfy any gorehound who enjoys watching both alien organs and human ripped out. It is a little light on the blood and gore, but there are a handful of good moments you will cherish for a long time.
If you are still reading this review, you have to check out this film. Eduardo Sanchez has definitely outdone himself this time. If you love any sci/fi, alien abduction or creepy creature films, this is right up your alley. And if you don't enjoy films like that I still believe you will love this film. Altered is a must-own DVD, and you have to be crazy not to own it or at least rent it.
I can't recommend this film enough guys, and I am proud to have this film as part of my DVD collection...bring on Altered 2.
