Robot Chicken: Star Wars - Episode II… am I going to be hounded and harassed with emails if I confess to the fact that I have never EVER watched the original Star Wars trilogy (or however many films there are)?
All I know about Star Wars is the many parodies or homage’s you see in movies or pop culture in general; or from Jay and Silent Bob talking or other Kevin Smith characters talking endlessly about the characters/films. I’ve enjoyed the few episodes of Robot Chicken that I have seen but I guess because I haven’t seen the Star Wars films, a lot of the gags are lost on me.
Although, there’s lots of gags that I can pick up on and the main ones that are funny to see are the characters doing daily things: Vader doing dishes, The Emperor getting a haircut; or the blending of pop culture and fads like text lingo and how the creators completely rip the shit out of them, makes Robot Chicken Star Wars a really entertaining watch (to those acquainted with Star Wars and those who are not).
Clocking in at 38 minutes (there‘s also an extended version too), it’s nearly double the time as the first Robot Chicken Star Wars and it’s far more epic on every level, visually and comically. I can’t believe that it is stop motion, it looks fucking amazing. It was really interesting watching some of the special features that discussed how they made certain sets and details of the puppets etc.
I am sure there’s debates as to which episode is better but if you love the show and the first Robot Chicken Star Wars episode, you’ll want this release.
